Mrs. Oliver grew up in Owosso, Michigan and attended the University of Michigan- Flint to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education with an emphasis on Language Arts and Social Studies. She earned her Master's in education at Ferris State University. She taught for six years in the small town of Manton, Michigan before settling in the awesome city of Grand Rapids.
Mrs. Oliver is married to a techie guy named Brian who designs software and websites. She has two quirky children: Maggie (age 10) and Sam (age 7). She has a fluffy black dog named Rosie. Because she's an artsy crafty sort-of-person, she loves painting, sewing, and scrapbooking. But most of all, she loves cuddling up in her big, blue chair with a great book and a steaming cup of coffee...and teaching kids, of course.. :)
Mr. Prince grew up in Downey, CA (home of the oldest original McDonalds and the Apollo Space Program) and lived in the same house until moving to Holland, MI to attend Hope College (ironically his parents met at Calvin). There he met his wife Lynn and after graduating, Jason started a roller-hockey league for kids where he discovered a love for working with kids. He then used his Hope College Psychology major to help him earn his teaching certificate at Aquinas College and then his Masters degree.
Jason & Lynn Prince now live in the Northview District with 2 kids of their own, Noah, who is an 9th grader and MaryHelen, who is in 12th grade.
I look forward to helping your child have a great academic and social school year here at Highlands Middle.
